What is the UK49s?

UK49s is a national lottery draw game with a difference. What makes the UK49s different to other lottery draw games is a number of things; the betting structure, the prize strtucture, the draw frequency & the method of purchasing a ticket are all different in this uniquely English betting game.

UK49s has been around since the early 1990’s when it set up with the intention to counter the then new UK National Lottery which had just been launched to fanfare up and down the country. What the UK49s wanted to do was create a similar lottery draw game, but have it fit more into their gambling/casino style program than that of a domestic state lottery. The UK49s did this by creating a lottery draw game with a big difference.

UK49s Number Picking

The UK49s allows the player to decide how many number balls he/she would like to bet on the being pulled from the draw. Unlike regular lotteries like the US Powerball or the Euro millions, in the UK49s you don’t have to pick 6 numbers and a bonus ball. If you want to, you can pick only one number and then bet on the outcome of just that number being drawn. For a bet like this, you will be offered low odds (Currently the odds given in the UK49s for a single number being drawn are 6-1), however you can counter these low odds by betting more money on it.

UK49s Betting

The UK49s allow you, the player, to decide how much money you are willing to bet on the outcome that you have chosen. Unlike the other lotteries out there, the UK49s doesn’t have a single price option but rather, allows you to decide how much you want to bet. This is a stark contrast to any other lottery draw game we are familiar with. The betting structure of the UK49s has another effect that it is realized in the Prize Structure of the draw.

Prize Structure

The side effects of an asymmetrical betting structure are that you create a prize structure where the only symmetry is in the odds – the prize amounts will obviously change depending on how much money you decided to wager on the given outcome. The UK49s offers odds for each possible outcome ranging from 6-1 for a single number to odds of almost 14,000,000-1 for the top prize of seven numbers (6 + Bonus ball). The one variant that never changes in the UK49s is the odds, pretty much everything else can be decided on by the player.

UK49s Draw Days

The UK49s is drawn twice a day, every day, 7 days a week. There is a lunchtime draw that takes place at 12:49 pm & a teatime draw that takes place at 4:49pm. Live streaming of the drawing can be seen throughout UK inside participating bookies and betting shops. The live draw can also be streamed online via the same participating companies.

Minimum Jackpot

The minimum possible jackpot payout for the UK49s would be the minimum stake multiplied by the odds. Following this logic, the minimum jackpot payout in the UK49s would be around 13 million GBP. Accurate numbers are impossible as the odds are slightly different at different providers.

Record Jackpot

1 million GBP.

Ticket Cost

As mentioned, the cost of a ticket is dependent on the size of the wager that the player would like to gamble. The minimum bet allowed in the UK49s is £1.
